Why Now Is a Great Time to Buy a Subaru

By ·

Our When to Buy a Subaru guide looks at the bigger timing question. This is my answer for right now.

November is a sweet spot worth paying attention to if you’ve been thinking about getting a Subaru before the end of the year.

I work at AutoNation Subaru Carlsbad, and this comes from what I see at our store. As November goes on, the selection of remaining 2026s tends to narrow. December gets busy, and the dealership can be packed. At the same time, incoming 2027s give people who want the newest model year something else to consider.

That combination is why I like starting the conversation now. You have time to look at the cars, compare your options and figure out what works for you before the end-of-year rush.

Walk the Crosstrek inventory with me

Here’s what that November selection looks like at AutoNation Subaru Carlsbad: remaining 2026s, arriving 2027s, and a mix of Crosstrek trims and hybrids. This video was filmed in November 2026. Inventory shown is a snapshot; confirm current availability, equipment, pricing and offers with the selling dealership.

More choice is a good reason to start looking

When you’re shopping, “there’s a Crosstrek available” and “there’s the Crosstrek you want” can be two different things.

You might want a particular color, seat material or option package. Maybe you’re deciding between two trims and would like to see both before choosing.

In my experience, those choices get narrower as the remaining model-year inventory sells through. There may still be cars to choose from later, but the combinations won’t necessarily be the same.

That’s the part I think gets overlooked in the usual year-end shopping conversation. There’s a lot of attention on the last day of December. I’d rather help you compare the Subarus that fit you while we have options to look at.

A remaining 2026 could be your fit

If a 2026 has the equipment you want, it belongs in the conversation.

We can look at the specific car, its current price and any applicable offers together. You may be flexible on color, or you might find that the trim you already liked gives you everything you need.

I wouldn’t ask you to compromise on something important just to get an outgoing model year. But I also wouldn’t skip a good fit simply because the next model year is starting to arrive.

Start with what you’ll enjoy driving. Then let’s see how the numbers compare.

Or maybe you want the new 2027

Some people enjoy getting the newest model year, and I get that too.

If that’s you, we can focus on the 2027 you’re interested in: what’s different, which configuration you want and what the store can confirm about incoming vehicles.

The details matter here. A car listed as in transit isn’t the same as one ready for a test drive. We’ll check its status and discuss any estimated arrival timing before planning around it.

You don’t have to decide between 2026 and 2027 before reaching out. Comparing the two may be how you make the decision.

Give yourself room before December gets busy

December is a busy month at our dealership. From my side of the desk, that’s another reason November is a useful time to get started.

You can narrow down your model, understand the trim differences and take a drive without leaving every part of the decision until the end of the year.

Even if you aren’t ready to buy today, knowing what you want makes the next conversation easier. We can spend less time starting from scratch and more time looking at the right cars.

Put the current numbers beside the car

Rates and savings are part of the comparison, too. I’d check the current terms for the exact vehicle rather than assume every 2026 or 2027 has the same offer.

If you’re financing, compare the amount financed, APR, loan length and total cost alongside the payment. A smaller payment over a longer term doesn’t necessarily mean a less expensive purchase. CFPB’s loan-comparison guidance

We’ll also confirm eligibility and expiration dates. Offers can change, and final terms should come in writing from the dealership.

Let’s see what fits

That’s why I think now is a great time to look: compare remaining 2026s and incoming 2027s, and give yourself some room before December gets busy.

Start with the Subaru Comparison Guide, or send me the model and features you’re considering. If you’re nearby, we can plan a Subie Cruise and get you some time in the car.

Whether you want a remaining 2026 or the newest 2027, let’s look at your options.
