Choosing your Subaru
2026 WRX buying advice
Choose manual or automatic first, then decide whether you want daily comfort or the extra chassis hardware. Try the seats and ride on ordinary roads. A higher trim does not add rated horsepower, and the most expensive configuration is not essential for every driver.
Choosing your WRX
Compare all trims ↑Which WRX trim should I get?
Start with Premium for a daily-driven manual, Base for the lowest entry price, or Limited for added cabin comfort and a choice of manual or SPT automatic. Compare GT for automatic chassis upgrades and tS for manual chassis upgrades.
WRX Base vs Premium — which is the better buy?
Base and Premium share the rated 271-hp engine and manual transmission. Premium adds useful daily comforts such as heated front seats. Choose from the equipment you will use rather than expecting the trim step to add horsepower.
Is the WRX tS worth it?
tS is worth comparing if you want a manual with upgraded brakes, STI-tuned electronically controlled dampers and Recaro seats. It keeps the same rated horsepower. Try the seat fit and ride before deciding the chassis hardware suits your driving.
WRX GT vs tS — what's the difference?
GT uses the Subaru Performance Transmission automatic; tS uses a six-speed manual. Both add chassis and seating equipment, while tS includes Brembo brakes. Pick the transmission first, then compare the exact hardware and comfort features.
Can you still get a WRX with a manual?
Yes. Base, Premium, Limited, tS and Series.Yellow offer a six-speed manual in this 2026 guide. Limited also offers SPT automatic, and GT is automatic-only. Check the configuration label before comparing prices or inquiry details.
Is the WRX Limited worth it?
Limited is worth comparing for its Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seating, audio, navigation and added assistance features. Its seats are not the Recaros fitted to GT and tS. It offers manual or SPT automatic without adding rated horsepower.
Is the WRX Base worth it?
Base is worth starting with if you want the 271-hp turbo, AWD and six-speed manual at the lowest starting price. Compare Premium's daily comforts before deciding. Base already includes the 11.6-inch multimedia system for 2026.
What do you give up with the WRX Base?
Base omits equipment such as Premium's heated front seats and all-weather comforts, and higher trims' upgraded seating and chassis hardware. It retains the same rated engine output. Use the table to identify features you would genuinely miss.
Is the WRX Base slower than the top trims?
All trims share the same rated horsepower, but that does not prove identical acceleration or handling. Transmission, tires, suspension, weight and conditions can change results. Higher trims mainly distinguish themselves through equipment and chassis choices.
Does the WRX Base come with a manual?
Yes. The 2026 Base in this guide comes with a six-speed manual. For a factory automatic WRX, compare Limited SPT and GT. Select the transmission explicitly before asking about a particular configuration.
Is the WRX GT worth it?
GT is worth comparing if you want the SPT automatic together with Recaro seats, adjustable dampers and drive modes. Limited SPT may be enough if those chassis upgrades are optional for you. Try the ride and seat fit on your normal roads.
Does the WRX GT come with a manual?
No. GT is SPT automatic-only. Compare tS if you want a manual with additional chassis hardware, or Limited if you want a manual with more cabin comfort. These choices have different equipment as well as different transmissions.
WRX GT vs Limited automatic — is the step up worth it?
The step to GT adds chassis and seating equipment, including Recaros and electronically controlled dampers. Limited SPT retains the same rated engine output. Compare the current configured totals and test-drive the differences you are paying for.
WRX GT vs tS — which should I get?
Choose the transmission first: GT is SPT automatic and tS is six-speed manual. Then compare the brakes, suspension, seats and other equipment. Neither adds rated horsepower over the rest of the lineup.
Is the WRX Limited worth it?
Limited is worth comparing when you want upgraded upholstery, audio, navigation and added assistance features. It offers manual and SPT automatic configurations. Its Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats are not Recaros; those are part of the GT and tS equipment.
Can you get the WRX Limited with an automatic?
Yes. Limited has separate six-speed manual and Subaru Performance Transmission automatic configurations. Select the correct one above so the equipment, published MSRP and inquiry context match the transmission you want.
WRX Limited vs Premium — is the step up worth it?
Limited adds upholstery, seating adjustment, audio, navigation and assistance features rather than horsepower. Premium with its optional audio and moonroof package is also worth comparing. Use current configured totals instead of assuming an old quoted price gap still applies.
Should I get the WRX Limited or step up to the GT or tS?
Stay with Limited if its comfort equipment and transmission choice meet your needs. Compare GT for automatic chassis upgrades or tS for manual chassis upgrades and Brembo brakes. Try the Recaro seats before assuming they are more comfortable for you.

Is the WRX Premium worth it over the Base?
Premium is worth comparing for daily comforts such as heated front seats and the All-Weather Package. It shares Base's rated engine output and manual transmission. The optional audio and moonroof package is a separate configuration in the selector.
WRX Premium vs Base — which should I buy?
Choose Base if its equipment meets your needs and the lower starting price matters most. Choose Premium if you will use its added comfort features regularly. A test drive and an exact equipment comparison are more useful than shopping by trim rank.
Does the WRX Premium have Recaro seats?
No. Premium uses cloth seating. Limited adds Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats, but those are not Recaros either. Compare GT, tS or the tS-based Series.Yellow if factory Recaro seats are a priority.
Will a higher WRX trim be faster than the Premium?
A higher trim does not add rated horsepower: the lineup uses the same 271-hp engine. Transmission and chassis differences can affect the driving experience and measured results. Choose an upgrade for the equipment it actually provides.
Is the WRX tS worth it?
tS is worth comparing if you want the manual transmission with STI-tuned electronically controlled dampers, Brembo brakes and Recaro seats. It retains the same rated horsepower. Try the seating and ride, and consider running costs before choosing the extra hardware.
What's the best-handling WRX?
tS is the manual WRX to compare for its factory chassis hardware, including adjustable dampers and Brembo brakes with six-piston front and two-piston rear calipers. Handling preference still depends on tires, conditions and the driver; test-drive it rather than treating a badge as a universal ranking.
WRX tS vs Base — is the chassis upgrade worth it?
The step from Base buys substantial chassis, brake, seating and cabin equipment while keeping the same rated horsepower. Decide whether you will use those upgrades and compare current configured totals. A daily commute alone does not make them essential for every buyer.
Does the WRX tS come with an automatic?
No. tS is six-speed manual-only. GT is the automatic alternative with its own chassis equipment, while Limited SPT offers a more comfort-focused automatic choice. Compare their brakes and suspension rather than assuming they are identical apart from the gearbox.
