The 2026 Outback Lineup
One honest line on each โ who it fits, and the trade-off nobody at a dealership will mention.
The full 2026 redesign โ 12.1-inch screen, digital cluster, all the space โ at the opening price. Trade-off: cloth seats and the 180-hp base engine. For most families, that's plenty.
Leather, power everything, the comfort features that make daily hauling feel less like hauling. Trade-off: same 180 hp โ you're paying for comfort, not muscle.
The 260-hp turbo changes the car โ real passing power loaded, real towing confidence. If you tow, carry five, or drive the grades on the 15, the XT is worth it.
The turbo plus lifted suspension, all-terrains, and the hardware for real dirt. Trade-off: fuel economy and a busier highway ride โ buy it for the trail, not the badge.
Nappa leather, every tech and comfort box checked. Trade-off: at this price the Limited XT costs less and adds the turbo โ pick Touring only if luxury beats power for you.
Everything, plus the turbo. The no-asterisk Outback. Trade-off: it's the most expensive way to buy one โ and we'll tell you honestly if a Limited XT gets you 95% of it.
All prices are starting MSRP โ your out-the-door number comes in writing.
Honest Guidance
Six trims sounds complicated. It's really three questions: turbo or not, dirt or not, leather or not.
School runs, Costco, the occasional Big Bear weekend. Premium or Limited โ the base engine handles all of it, and the redesign's space and safety are identical up and down the lineup. Spend the difference on the roof box.
Trailers, five passengers, mountain grades. Get the XT โ the 260-hp turbo is the single most meaningful option on this car. Limited XT is the sweet spot; Touring XT if you want the leather too.
Fire roads, desert camps, that one cabin with the sketchy driveway. Wilderness โ the lift, tires, and turbo are built for exactly this. If dirt is occasional, a Premium with good tires does more than you'd think.
And because 2026 is a full redesign โ the outgoing-generation used Outbacks are proven, plentiful, and priced well. We run the new-vs-used math both ways and show you where each lands.
Name, number, trim โ or just "help me pick." We handle the rest.
